Have you ever had a dream that stayed with you long after you woke up? Not just a random dream, but something that felt real, something that didn’t leave your mind even after days passed. What if some dreams are not just dreams… but moments where God is trying to get your attention?
We all dream, right? I don’t think I’ve ever had a night’s sleep without dreaming. Sometimes dreams feel so real, almost like they actually happened. And then there are other dreams, strange ones, confusing ones, and sometimes even scary ones that wake us up in the middle of the night. Those are the ones we call nightmares. But have you ever thought about this? Sometimes, God uses dreams to communicate with us.
Dreams Are Not Always Just Dreams
The Bible tells us that dreams can come from a busy mind and from weariness, Ecclesiastes 5:3, but at the same time, there are moments when dreams carry something deeper, something meaningful. There are times when we are waiting on answers, praying, thinking, asking God for direction, and then a dream comes.
Sometimes it feels opposite to what we expect, and sometimes it feels like a glimpse of what God is about to do in our lives. When you look at the Bible, dreams are not something new. They are everywhere. The book of Daniel is filled with dreams. King Nebuchadnezzar had dreams he could not understand, and God used Daniel to interpret them.
In Genesis, we read about Joseph, who was even called a dreamer. God used dreams to guide his life, and what he saw in dreams eventually became reality. So if God spoke through dreams back then, it is not impossible for Him to speak through dreams even today.
At the same time, we need to understand something clearly: not every dream is from God. Many dreams are just our minds processing thoughts. Some dreams disappear the moment we wake up. Even nightmares fade away as the day begins. But there are certain dreams that stay. They don’t leave you. Days pass, sometimes even months pass, but those dreams remain fresh in your mind. Those are the ones that make you pause and think.
When Dreams Start Feeling Real
I’ve had moments like that in my own life. I remember when I was very young, maybe in 3rd or 4th grade, I had a close friend who used to sit next to me in school. One day, I had a strange dream about him. I didn’t see how it happened, but I had this feeling that he was gone, like he had died. It was quiet, almost empty, like he just wasn’t there anymore. At that age, I didn’t think much about it. But after two or three months, that same friend passed away. I didn’t even know how to process it then, but later, when I remembered that dream and connected everything, I realized that some dreams are not just dreams.
There were other moments too. Times when I was going through confusion in life, especially during difficult situations. I remember once being in a relationship that ended suddenly without clear answers. It affected me deeply. I was confused, hurt, and searching for closure, but I wasn’t getting any. During that time, I had a dream where I saw certain scenes that didn’t make sense at that moment.
But later, when I started asking questions and understanding what had actually happened, I realized that some of those scenes were exactly true. That’s when I understood again that God can reveal things in ways we don’t expect.
A Dream That Prepared Me
Recently, I had a dream that really stayed with me. In the dream, I was traveling by train. It was a clean and well-designed train, and I was in an air-conditioned compartment. But before getting on the train, I had to struggle to get my ticket. The line was long, and I had to wait for hours. I was tired and already frustrated even before the journey began.
I had luggage with me, and at one point, I left it on another platform, thinking I could go back and get it later. I took things casually. I assumed I would have enough time. The train I was waiting for was very important because I was invited as a keynote speaker for an event. It was a big responsibility, but even with that importance, I wasn’t fully prepared.
At some point, I dozed off and missed the announcement that the train had arrived. I woke up only when I heard the horn. I ran to catch it, and the driver gave me five minutes. I put my personal things in my seat, and I told the guy next to my seat, ” Brother, please look it out for me, I will go get my other luggage on the next platform. I rushed to get my luggage, but this time things were different. There were restrictions, and I couldn’t cross the tracks as I planned.
I had to take the overbridge, something I hadn’t prepared for at all. Before I could make it back, the train left right in front of me. In that moment, I realized something terrible. My phone, my laptop, my passport, everything important, was still inside the train. I had lost it all. I came home in deep stress, questioning everything, even questioning God. But then I heard a voice, soft yet clear, saying, “My son, I still have control of this situation.”
Later in the dream, a friend I had never really paid much attention to was at home at that time. He saw me lying flat on the ground, completely shocked, depressed, and frustrated. He came to me and asked, “Hey, what happened?” This time, I wasn’t angry at him. I just told him, “I lost everything.” He asked me for the details—about the train and what exactly happened—and then he said, “Hey, my brother is traveling in the same train. Let me call and check with him.”
He called his brother, and while he was on the call, I noticed he was smiling. I was wondering, “What are these guys smiling about?” After the call ended, he looked at me and said, “Hey bro, everything’s alright. God is great. You won’t believe what I’m about to tell you.” Then he said, “My brother is sitting right next to your seat. Do you remember the guy you told to keep an eye on your belongings before you went to get your luggage? That’s my brother. He knows you, but you don’t know him. And guess what? He is also going to the same event—to listen to you as the keynote speaker.”
He continued, “So don’t worry. He has all your belongings safe with him. Just book a flight, and in one or two hours you will reach your destination—even before the train arrives.” When I heard that, I was overwhelmed with joy. Tears just started flowing. I couldn’t believe it. Everything I thought I had lost was actually safe. And then… I woke up, and I checked the time. It was exactly 6:00 AM. Wow.
What God Showed Me
This dream reminded me of the parable of the ten virgins. All ten were waiting, but only five were prepared. The others thought they were ready, but when the time came, they were not. In my dream, I also thought I was ready. I had the ticket. I had the invitation. But I was not prepared. God showed me that there are areas in my life where I think I am ready, but I am not. There are habits, distractions, and things that quietly hold me back from going deeper with Him.
At the same time, the dream also showed me something beautiful. Even in my carelessness, even in my mistakes, God did not abandon me. He made a way. He placed the right person in the right place at the right time to protect what I thought I had lost. That is how God works. Even when we fail, even when we take things lightly, He still leads us and reminds us that He is in control.
My friend, take a moment and look at your life. Are there areas where you think you are ready, but deep inside you know you are not? Are there habits, distractions, or hidden struggles that are slowing you down? God is calling you deeper, not to condemn you, but to prepare you. At the same time, He is reminding you that you are not alone. Even in your mistakes, He is still working in your life.
Let God lead you. Let Him shape you. Let Him take control. Because when you truly allow Him, you will begin to see how beautifully He orchestrates everything around you—not to harm you, but to guide you safely toward the life He has prepared for you.
